More stuff about the music and stories on this weekâs Melodica – this week it’s all about bears (sort of).
In tune with the Melodica aesthetic, covering a broad range of exciting, inspiring, beautiful new music from electronica to house to experimental.
THAT FUZZY FEELING: HOT TODDY FEAT DANIELLE MOORE – WON’T LET GO
A lovely slice of acid disco from Hot Toddy and Danielle Moore from Crazy P. This one has been in my record bag for ages but is now released as a single with a new rather dark mix from Black Strobe. Great stuff.
WE LOVE… ALBUMS
We Love, the club promoters behind the epic night at Space in Ibiza have started a label. Thankfully they are not doing the usual cheesy club compilation CD. They are, instead, featuring on artists’ own work, starting with their Space resident DJ Matt Playford. Surprisingly Matt doesn’t just make banging terrace tunes, he has an alter-ego, Weirdo Police, for more Balearic gear, featured here across the whole of one disc. Disc two is a collection of more clubby stuff and collaborations.
VINCENZO – WHEREVER I LAY MY HEAD
Vincenzo is an artist in the process of discovering that there is more to house music that big room club stuff. On this album he gets really deep, making a great listening as well as a good dancing experience. Nice.
HALF MAN HALF COYOTE
Coyote, our musical friends from Nottingham have an album coming called Half Man, Half Coyote, on their own Is It Balearic? label. They are pressing just 500 copies on super fat, super heavy vinyl. The music is, as you would expect, a mix of dubby, downtempo bits. More from this on next week’s show.
A real classic song, first released in 1982 as a 12″ single on Rough Trade Records gets a spin this week. It’s juxtaposes the promise of work in the shipyards with the thought that the new boat will be sent off to a new war. It’s still as relevant today as the day it was released and in my opinion it is one of the greatest, most emotional, moving songs ever written.
